Reclaimed Material Pavilion
This project was to explore potential reuses of construction and demolition waste which commonly end up within landfills, in an effort to extend the life-cycle of construction materials. For this project, new potential applications of 2x4 were explored in designing a new pavilion for the New York State Fairgrounds.
The structure designed crates a span below for the utilization of the space created within and around the structure. This creates the potential for the pavilion to incorporate the surrounding environment, whether it is spanning a waterway or creating a plaza beneath below the structure.
Material texture and condition were incorporated into the assembly of the material and the feel of the space. Utilizing the natural features of the grain and deformation that it causes brings attention to the potentials of continuing the utilization of wood extending the carbon capture lifespan of the material.
